Podcast Episodes That I Love

These are, purely and simply, my favourite five podcast episodes right now.

This list may change soon or it may not.

They may resonate with you or they may not.

However, if you are simply looking for a place to start, you can’t go too far wrong with one of these fantastic episodes.

Let me know if you listened and what you thought!

Before I jump in to my top 5 podcast episodes I would just like to wholeheartedly recommend The Positive Birth Story podcast.

Hosted by Stockholm-based midwife Åsa Holstein, international and Swedish birthing people alike share their stories (in English) of birthing here in Sweden.

I love that the details vary but that each birth is such a positive experience.

Åsa’s calm voice and obvious joy in her work make this podcast a must, especially for those new to birth in Sweden.

Plus Mommy Podcast: What is Physiologic Birth and How to Experience It

I listened to this recently and immediately wanted to share it with the world. It is such an amazing, interesting, informative, wonderful episode all about physiological birth.

I definitely do not want to push one type of birth over another but, actually, this info is super relevant for all kinds of births.

From the physical side to the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of birth, it’s all covered.

Simply too good not to share.

Enjoy!

Delivering Strength Podcast: Postpartum Planning

This episode is an absolute must for when you are thinking about your postpartum. Not just for you, but for your partner, friends and family too.

I love that they cover everything from current western postpartum culture, the idea that we should be able to do it all, the physical side of postpartum and what to have on hand, food, visitors, how to talk to your partner and so much more.

Just make sure you listen well before your baby arrives!

Pregnancy Podcast: Labor Room Environment

Creating your birth cave, a space where you feel calm, safe and supported, is incredibly important.

The flow of hormones that is so necessary for a smooth birth can only flow if you feel safe and comfortable in your environment.

Another short episode but with some great tips on creating a calm space in the hospital and why it is so important to do so.

Pregnancy Birth and Beyond: At Least You Have a Healthy Baby

This episode covers the incredibly important area of postpartum anxiety and depression.

”Life with a new baby can be very lonely in today’s society”.

I honestly believe that this topic cannot be discussed too often or brought out into the open enough.

No one thinks it will happen to them but knowing the signs (get your partner to listen too) could mean that you get help sooner rather than later.

Experiencing postpartum anxiety or depression does not make you a bad parent.

You are the centre of you baby’s world and you need to be strong and healthy, not just physically but emotionally too.

The episode itself is only twenty-seven minutes long so please, please listen.

The Birth Hour: Natural Coping Techniques for Labor

If you are aiming for a totally intervention-free birth, this episode is a must.

If you are planning on getting an epidural the minute you arrive at the hospital, you will still be in labour for a while before you get there. These tips could be invaluable.

This episode is one of five fantastic ‘Know Your Options’ episodes co-created with doula, childbirth educator and lactation consultant, Stephanie Spitzer-Hanks (I know Stephanie from a prenatal yoga course we attended when expecting our first babies, so I love that she is featured here).

The episode focuses on breathing, movement, water, your partner and counter pressure and also includes some great ideas on tools for your birth bag.

At 17 only minutes long, this is a must listen to episode!
