6 Essential Items For NICU Families

Delivering Miracles – Essential Gifts for NICU Parents

Why this podcast?
I decided that I needed to freshen things up a little and so I went through all the podcasts I subscribe to, deleted some and went looking for new ones. I had heard, via the fantastic Doing It At Home (DIAH) podcast, that there is a collection of fertility, pregnancy, birth and parenting podcasts under the umbrella Parents on Demand (or POD) network.

I think it’s safe to say I found a few new podcasts to explore!

How Might A Big Baby Change Your Birth?

Evidence Based Birth – What are the birth implications for a suspected big baby?

Why this podcast?

“If you don’t know your options, you don’t have any.” Diana Korte and Roberta Scaer.

In order to have options you first need to know what those options are and that requires information. Luckily, the internet is a source of endless knowledge but how much of it can really be trusted?

Evidence Based Birth is a fantastic and very accessible resource that is exactly what it says it is – evidence-based – and that is key when you are researching your birth options.

7 Ways Your Partner Can Support You Postpartum

Healthy Births Happy Babies – 7 Ways Dads Can Best Support Moms During Postpartum

Why this podcast?
This was one of the first podcasts that I featured on this blog but I have to admit that, lately, I have kind of forgotten about it. I thought about it just the other day and decided it was high time to feature it again!

This is a podcast hosted by doctors but geared towards undisturbed (or intervention-free) birth, which, rightly or wrongly, is not necessarily a combination you might expect.

Taking A Breastfeeding Class…..Before Your Baby Arrives?

All Things Breastfeeding Podcast – Taking a Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Why this podcast?
This podcast is part of a website called The Breastfeeding Center of Ann Arbor (BFCAA.com) which is a fantastic resource for everything relating to breastfeeding and includes links to blogs, youtube videos, apps and lots more.

It’s such a great resource that I am going ahead with this post even though, for some reason, I can no longer access the website. I am not the most tech savvy individual so I’m not sure if the problem is my end or the website end. If anyone knows what might be happening please let me know!

What To Pack In Your Birth Bag

The Pregnancy Podcast – What to Pack in Your Birth Bag

Why this podcast?
If you’ve ever read this blog before you will probably have stumbled across quite a few posts featuring the Pregnancy Podcast.

I love it because the episodes are short, easy to listen to and use evidence-based info to help you get informed about pretty much everything and anything surrounding your pregnancy and birth.

It’s an amazing resource and I’m so happy that the host, Vanessa Merten, is still going strong!

Do You Co-Sleep?

All About Breastfeeding – Helen Ball Talks Co-sleeping and Room Sharing

Why this podcast?
This is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to or already breastfeeding.
The host, Lori Isenstadt, is an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) and after having a tough birth and breastfeeding experience with her first child, she certified as both a Childbirth Educator and a Birth Doula.

With around ten thousand consultations with mothers and babies, Lori definitely knows a thing or two about breastfeeding.

Your Baby Is Dreaming

The Pregnancy Podcast: 40 Weeks – Week 28

Why this podcast?
I have featured the amazing Pregnancy Podcast once or twice, ok maybe a few more times than that, but I realised I had never featured an episode from the 40 Weeks section.

This series of podcast episodes gives you the lowdown on what both you and your baby are experiencing in each week of your pregnancy. I love the fact that it goes from 0 right through to 42 weeks because, as we all know, most babies do not arrive on their ‘due dates’.

The Evidence On Placenta Encapsulation

The Evidence Based Birth Podcast – (Episode 7)

Why this podcast?
As a doula, I always want to guide my clients to evidence-based information so that they can make truly informed decisions. Evidence Based Birth is a fantastic website with easy to understand research and information on a whole range of pregnancy and birth-related topics.

From the evidence on being induced or having a cesarean for a big baby to failure to progress; premature rupture of membranes; doulas and a natural labour induction series, they’ve got you covered.

When Will It Happen? The Last Weeks of Pregnancy

Taking Back Birth – When Will It Happen? Staying Present During The Weeks Before Birth

Why this podcast?
This week’s podcast, Taking Back Birth, is part of the amazing Indie Birth website which provides fantastic pregnancy and birth resources.

“INDIE BIRTH IS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION AND KNOWLEDGE FOR THE MODERN PREGNANT WOMAN WHO KNOWS THAT HER BODY AND HER BABY ARE WISE; AND FOR THE MODERN BIRTHKEEPER WHO BELIEVES IN THESE WOMEN AS MUCH AS WE DO.”

This is not the first time I have featured this podcast nor shared this wonderful message from the Indie Birth homepage. It resonates so much with me and I really encourage you to go and explore both the podcast and the rest of the website.

Life With A Newborn Might Not Be All Sunshine and Daisies

Life With A Newborn Might Not Be All Sunshine and Daisies
This post is going to be very different from my regular posts. For a start, it’s going to be shorter. For another, it’s not really going to be about a podcast.

Many of you know that I am now in the process of certifying as a Postpartum Doula. It’s got me thinking about the postpartum period, the fourth trimester as it’s sometimes called, and about my own experience of that time.

Recently, there was a post in a group I belong to from someone open enough to admit that she was feeling overwhelmed by postpartum life. A baby, older children, a husband, housework, guests…. It was too much to handle everything and so she reached out.
